How does pricing work for large groups?
Groups rent whole balloons at flat, all-inclusive rates — capacity × $285 + 10% gratuity. As of July 2026: up to 8 guests $2,508, up to 12 $3,762, up to 14 $4,389, up to 16 $5,016 — about $313 per guest with full balloons. Bigger groups combine balloons: a group of 20 flies a 14 + an 8; a group of 30 flies a 16 + a 14. Transportation, snacks, the toast and gratuity are all included, and there are no taxes or service fees. (Parties of 2–4: see our private VIP flights — $1,500 for 2, $2,200 for 3–4.)
How many people can fly at the same time?
Up to 70 guests can fly on a single morning. As an example, four large balloons (up to 56 guests) run $17,556 all-in — bigger fleets price the same way, capacity × $285 + 10% gratuity. Groups of well over 100 split across consecutive mornings: a 160-guest program runs about $50,160 across three sunrises.
What's included in a group charter?
Local round-trip transportation (hotel or venue pickup in the Sonoma area), pre-flight coffee, tea & light snacks, a 45–60 minute flight with FAA-certified commercial pilots, ground crew and shuttle recovery, the traditional champagne toast (sparkling cider available), and gratuity. The quoted flat rate is the total.
Can everyone be in the same balloon?
Our largest balloon carries 16, so bigger groups fly as a flotilla — inflating side by side, launching together, and drifting within sight of each other. Everyone reunites at the champagne toast, and photographing each other's balloons in the air is half the fun.
What time does it start and finish?
Check-in at Sonoma Skypark is around 6:00 AM (seasonal — it tracks sunrise). Total experience is 3–3.5 hours; your group is done by 9:00–10:00 AM with the whole wine country day still ahead.
Do you work with event planners and DMCs?
Constantly — much of our group business comes through destination management companies and incentive planners. We provide contracts, invoicing, and certificates of insurance with additional insured on request, plus a day-before confirmation call with exact pickup times for your run-of-show. What if weather cancels the flight?
If our pilots deem conditions unsafe (fog, rain, high winds), we don't fly — safety is non-negotiable. We confirm conditions with your group leader the day before. If we cancel, your group reschedules or receives a full refund. Some mornings we can offer an optional alternate launch site nearby.
How far in advance should we book?
Peak season (May–October) fills weeks out, and multi-balloon mornings coordinate several pilots and crews — 4–8 weeks ahead is comfortable, and we can often move faster. Planning a program for next year? Calendars open around December, and we honor date holds to an agreed deadline.
What's the group cancellation policy?
Private and group charters carry a 30-day cancellation/rescheduling policy and are paid in full at booking to lock your date, balloons, pilots and crew. Weather cancellations by us are always fully refundable. Full details on our cancellation policy page.
Any age or physical requirements?
Guests must be 8+ years old and at least 57″ tall, able to stand for the full flight and climb in and out of the basket. We'll collect each passenger's name and approximate weight in advance (an FAA weight-and-balance requirement) — we send a simple roster sheet so it takes your group five minutes.
