Sonoma in November 2026: Weather, Events & Sunrise Flights

Sonoma in November is the month the valley slows down. The harvest is done, the crowds thin out, the vines turn gold and red, and the clocks go back. For a sunrise balloon flight, it is one of the easiest months of the year to plan.

Here is what to expect in Sonoma in November 2026: how early you will actually get up, what is going on in wine country, which days cost less, and what to wear in the basket.

Sonoma in November: the short version

  • Clocks go back Sunday, Nov. 1. Sunrise moves from about 7:34 a.m. on Halloween to about 6:35 a.m. the next morning.
  • Fall color is the draw. Our fall color guide covers why early-to-mid November is usually the best stretch.
  • Weekday flights are $265 per person (Mon–Thu). Fri–Sun is $285. This November has 17 Monday-to-Thursday mornings.
  • Every flight is at sunrise, 45 to 60 minutes in the air, with a champagne toast after you land.

Sunrise times in Sonoma in November 2026

We fly at sunrise, so the sun sets your whole morning. These are calculated sunrise times for the Sonoma Skypark area, after the clock change:

  • Sunday, Nov. 1: about 6:35 a.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 15: about 6:50 a.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 26: about 7:02 a.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 30: about 7:06 a.m.

That is a gradual slide of about half an hour over the month. Compare that with late October, when sunrise was after 7:30. The clock change is the big jump. After that, each morning is just a minute or two later than the last.

Check-in happens before sunrise, and we confirm your exact time directly with you. We'll call or text you the evening before your flight. Our pre-flight guide walks through the morning from arrival to landing.

Weather: cool, calm and sometimes foggy

November mornings in Sonoma are cold at dawn and mild by lunch. They are also some of our calmest. Light winds at sunrise are what we look for, and fall often delivers them.

The trade-off is fog and, as the month goes on, the first real storms. Fog and rain both ground a flight. If you want the full story, read can hot air balloons fly in fog and can hot air balloons fly in the rain. If we cancel for weather, our FAQ and cancellation policy explain your options.

A tip that helps: if you have flexibility, book a Monday–Thursday morning early in your trip. That leaves you a backup day if the weather doesn't cooperate on your first try.

One more reminder on the clock change. If you have a flight on Sunday, Nov. 1, your phone will switch times overnight, but a paper confirmation and an old watch won't. Set two alarms and read your check-in time twice. We would rather you arrive early with a coffee than rush across the parking lot.

What's happening in Sonoma wine country in November 2026

Wine & Food Affair, Nov. 7–8

Wine Road's 28th annual Wine & Food Affair runs Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7–8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Per Wine Road's event page, 45 wineries across Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Healdsburg take part. A weekend ticket is $135 plus tax, tickets are advance-only with no door sales, and the event is 21 and over. The final advance ticket deadline listed is Monday, Nov. 2. Check Wine Road's page for current availability.

It pairs well with a flight. Fly at sunrise, then spend the afternoon tasting. Saturday and Sunday flights are $285, the same as Friday, so a Friday flight keeps the weekend free for tasting.

Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11

Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year, which means a $265 morning. We wrote a full guide to the day: Veterans Day in Sonoma.

Thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26. Plenty of families travel that week. We cover the logistics in our Thanksgiving week guide. Call us at 707-819-9223 to confirm what we have open before you book.

Other events

Sonoma County Tourism's calendar also lists a Dia de los Muertos celebration on Nov. 1 and a holiday open house and marketplace at Grand Cru on Nov. 21. Events change, so check the listings before you plan around one.

What to wear on a November balloon flight

The ground is cold at check-in. In the air, you are moving with the wind, so you don't feel wind chill. Most guests are comfortable in layers. The burner also warms the basket.

  • Start with a base layer and add a fleece or light puffer you can unzip.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes with grip. You'll climb into a basket and walk across a field after landing.
  • Bring a hat that stays on and a thin pair of gloves for the parking lot.
  • Skip loose scarves and anything that dangles.

Our pre-flight page covers what to bring and what to leave in the car.

Why November works for first-timers

If you've been putting off a first flight, November is a good month to stop. The air is cool, the light is low and warm, and the valley looks different from the summer postcards. Gold and rust vines make the patchwork of vineyards easier to read from above.

It's also a good month for nervous flyers. The flight is slow and quiet, and most guests are surprised by how gentle it feels. If heights worry you, read what it actually feels like up there before you decide.

Finally, the post-flight morning is easy. Sunrise lands early enough that you can be back in town for brunch, with the whole day still ahead of you.

Where we fly in November

Launch sites depend on the wind that morning, and the pilots pick the one that gives the best flight. We check in at Sonoma Skypark, 21870 8th St E, Sonoma, CA 95476. That is about 45 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge. Read where we fly for how the sites work.

A simple plan for a November weekend

Here is a trip that works. Arrive Thursday. Fly Friday morning. Taste in Sonoma Valley in the afternoon. Spend Saturday at the Wine & Food Affair if your dates match. If your schedule allows, a Monday–Thursday flight saves $20 per person and costs less.

One note for anyone driving up from San Francisco: with the clock change, you'll be leaving in the dark. Build in extra time. Our post on drive times from SF has the numbers.
